Bolivia considering new note issue in 2011-2012

The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales,
has suggested that Banco Central de Bolivia print banknotes with images of
indigenous heroes, coca, and archaeological sites in the South
American country, as part of its policy of "decolonization." Among
those proposed to be depicted on the new notes are Bartolina Sisa
and Tupac Katari, heroes who rose against the Spanish colony in the
18th century. The proposal also suggests depicting natural sites,
such as mountains of Bolivia, that are sacred to indigenous
peoples. If the bank adopts the proposals, new notes could be
issued as early as 2011-2012.
