According to a press release dated 6 August 2012, the Banco Central de Costa Rica issued new 5,000-, 10,000-, and 50,000-colon (US$10, $20, and $100, respectively) banknotes on 27 August 2012. The old 5,000- and 10,000-colon notes (P272 and P273) will remain legal tender until 1 January 2013, and after 1 May 2013, they can be redeemed only at the central bank.
I predict that one of these notes will win the IBNS Bank Note of the Year award for 2012. But which one? They are all very beautiful and colorful.
