India new 2-rupee note reported

According to an article in Deccan Chronicle dated 30 July 2012, the Reserve Bank of India will soon issue a 2-rupee (US$0.03) note with a new design on back. The front will remain the same as the current 2-rupee note (P79), but with a new signature of P. C. Bhattacharyya.

The back of the note is completely redesigned. The blank watermark panel on the right has a border of floral design with the words “two rupees” in English, appearing at the bottom in large white shaded letters. A tiger in a circular ornamental frame is depicted on the left with the Reserve Bank seal at the bottom.

Below a curved panel bearing the inscription “Reserve Bank of India” in the centre is printed in a rectangular panel the value of the note in 13 of the 14 languages listed in the Constitution. The value in Hindi appears at the bottom in a separate panel in large white shaded letters. The main design is printed in deep olive green on the obverse and of orange and blue green on the reverse. The notes, now in circulation with emblem of Asoka pillar, will continue to be legal tender, the Reserve Bank announcement said.
